About the University of St. Gallen

More than 1000 years of history in one place: The city of St. Gallen, metropolis of eastern Switzerland and the region uniquely combines culture and nature.

The “Abbey District” with the Cathedral and the world famous library reflects the thousand year old culture of the monastery district in an impressive way and was included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1983.

As a university town, St.Gallen has an excellent reputation and theatre, concerts, museums and the culture center Lokremise offers an attractive program.

Leaving the city limits on foot, by train or by bus, you will find yourself within a few minutes in nature. Walks from Lake Constance to the highest mountain in eastern Switzerland, the Säntis at 2500 m elevation or in Appenzell with its original nature and can be beautifully finished with a hash brown meal.
